6 = 2(2 + 8) - 5x

follow PEMDAS. Add the numbers in parenthesis first

2 + 8 = 10

multiply 10 with 2

2(10) = 20

6 = 20 - 5x

isolate the x, subtract 20 from both sides

6(-20) = 20 (-20) - 5x

6 - 20 = -5x

-14 = -5x

isolate the x, divide -5 from both sides

-14/-5 = -5x/-5

x = -14/-5

x = 2.8

hope this helps
