80000 * 5\% = 4000

4000 + 2000 = 6000
His salary for that month is $6000.

4800 - 2000 = 2800

x * 5\% = 2800 \\ x = 2800 * (100)/(5) \\ x = 56000
His total sales for that month is 56,000 worth of merchandise.

Hope this helps. - M
