To form a perfect square, we need to add (b/2)² to the equation.

x² + 16x ⇒ b = 16

\bigg( (b)/(2) \bigg)^2 = \bigg( (16)/(2) \bigg)^2 = \bigg(8 \bigg)^2= 64

We need to add 64 to the equation.

x² + 16x + 64 = (x+ 8)²

Answer: We need to add 64 to the equation.
