Sample Answer:

When businesses dump waste on the ground, some of the toxic material that may be present in the waste mixes with the soil. When water seeps through the ground, it carries these toxins into the water table. So, the groundwater becomes impure or contaminated. If there are wells nearby, the groundwater pumped through them can become impure too. In such cases, the wells may need to be shut down to address the contamination problem. Neighborhoods could face a temporary or long-term water shortage. People might become sick if they drink the water.
