What are some of the physical benefit to be derived from participating in gymnastics

As a gymnast, I have gained mental and physical strength while having fun. Now I will say this, it does push you body to its limits and so called "breaking point". But you still maintain a heathy lifestyle and get to learn really cool tricks that the average person could not do. :)

One of the major benefits is the fitness and health gain that comes along with it. The more you practice and work in it, the stronger your body gets.
