No presidential candidate won the majority of the electoral vote, so the decision was left to the House of Representatives. Even though this was a dictation to the 12th amendment that says, “should there be no majority vote for one person, the House of Representatives... chooses the president and Vice President.” The president of United States was James Monroe, 1824.

The House of Representatives decided the 1824 election because none of the four candidates received a majority of the electoral votes. After a lot of politicking the House e…lected John Quincy Adams even though Andrew Jackson led in both electoral and popular votes.
