The step 4 in the life cycle of the jelly fish indicates that meiosis takes place during the jellyfish's reproductive cycle.
Jellyfishes have a complex reproductive life cycle. The sexual phase of it is represented by the medusa in which its body resembles an umbrella. The jellyfishes are usually male or female and release the eggs and the sperms separately into the water for fertilization. In the sexual phase of the life cycle, the reproductive cells of the male and female medusa undergo meiosis. The medusae are diploid in nature (2n) and as a result of the reductional division called the meiosis, gametes of haploid nature (n) are produced by them. These fertilze and form the polyps which transorm into adult medusae.
