Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)

PID is a condition that includes the infection of the female reproductive organs (uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries). It is usually seen in younger women who are sexually active or who have recently experienced childbirth. The common causative agents of this bacterial infection are chlamydia and gonorrhea. Symptoms include pain in the lower abdomen, usually on both sides, fever or chills, abnormal vaginal discharge and the need to urinate more often.
