How does the environment determine where an organism can survive? Explain. Don’t give examples please

The environment determines where an organism can survive because of the living conditions in the environment. Animals that thrive in cold weather will most likely die in warm environments and animals that aren't fit and acrobatic most likely will not make it in mountainous environments.(Sorry for giving examples, I can't help it).
