Answers: x = 6, y= -4

Steps using substitution:

1. On the second equations add x on both sides.

y + x= 2

2. On the first pair of equation, solve the x by isolating on the left hand side of the equal sign.

5x - 7y = 58

Add 7y to both sides of the equation.

5x = 7y + 58

Divide by 5
X = 1/5 (7y+58)

Multiplier 1/5 times 7y + 58

X = 7/5y + 58/5

Substitute this equation to the other equation, x + y = 2

7/5y + 58/5 + y = 2

Add 7y/5 to y

12/5y + 58/5 = 2

Subtract 58/5

12/5y = -48/5 then divide the 12/5

Y= -4

Now plug in y which is -4 in x= 7/5y + 58/5

X = 7/5 (-4) + 58/5

X = -28+58/5

X = 6

X = 6, Y = -4
