Rebecca is taking measurements of her window so she can order custom-made blinds online. She discovers her window is 24 1/2 inches by 30 3/8 inches. The website recommends ordering outside-mounted blinds which are 2 percent larger than the window. The site asks for blind measurements in decimals rounded up to the nearest tenth. What size blinds should Rebecca order?

Answer:

Dimensions of the window blinds should be 25 inches × 31 inches

Explanation:

Rebecca's window dimensions are
24(1)/(2)=(49)/(2) inches by
30(3)/(8)=(243)/(8) inches

The website recommends ordering outside mounted blinds 2% larger than the window.

Therefore, length of the window blind =
(49)/(2)+((2)/(100) * (49)/(2))

=
(49)/(2)(1+(2)/(100))

=
(49)/(200)

= 24.99 inches

≈ 25.0 inches

Now width of the window blind =
(243)/(8)+(2)/(100)* (243)/(8)

=
(243)/(8)(1+(2)/(100))

=
(243)/(8)((102)/(100))

= 30.98

≈ 31.0 inches

Therefore, dimensions of the window blinds will be 25 inches × 31 inches

we know that

the dimensions of the windows are-------> 24 1/2 in x 30 3/8 in
24 1/2------> (24*2+1)/2-----> 49/2 in
30 3/8-----> (30*8+3)/8-----> 243/8 in

The dimensions 2 percent larger than the window are
(49/2)*1.02-----> 24.99 in-------> 25 in
243/8*1.02-----> 30.9825 in-----> 31 in

the answer is
25 in x 31 in
