Let us translate the sentence into mathematics ( step by step )

five less than four times a num. equals two more than three times a num.
↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓
- × = + ×

( Note we are asked to use n to represent the unknown number )

a. 4n - 5 = 2 + 3n

b. 4n - 5 = 2 + 3n
Bring like terms to one side
4n - 3n = 2 + 5
n = 7

c. By bringing like-terms to one side and performing the suitable operation

4n = 3n+7
