As a salesperson, you are paid $100 per week plus $3 per sale. This week you want your pay to be at least $160. Write an inequality for the number of sales you need to make, and describe the solutions.

A)100 - 3s ≤ 160; s ≤ 20
B)100 + 3s ≥ 160; s ≥ 18
C)100 - 3s ≤ 160; s ≤ 18
D)100 + 3s ≥ 160; s ≥ 20

The $3 per sale (3s) has to be added to the weekly pay ($100) AND has to be greater than or equal to (≥) $160. The only option that is valid is D) 100 + 3s ≥ 160.

Let's solve for s:

100 + 3s ≥ 160
subtract 100 from both sides

3s ≥ 60
divide both sides by 3

s ≥ 20

ANSWER: D) 100 + 3s ≥ 160; s ≥ 20

Hope this helps! :)
