Although Wilson wanted to start the league of nations which was a predecessor to the United Nations, the politicians and the people didn't support him. They believed that the United States should not participate in such worldly affairs and should stick to its own continent and look at what's good for their own country. Wilson couldn't do anything about it and the idea of neutrality and isolationism was only further reinforced.
