The Balfour Declaration was a public statement issued by the British government during World War I announcing support for the establishment of a "national home for the Jewish people".

On November 2, 1917 British Secretary Arthur James Balfour submitted a declaration to Lord Walter Rothschild, leader of the British Jewish community, for the creation of a Jewish State in Palestine.

Palestinians viewed this British policy to support Jewish immigration as an affront to their national right to self-determination.
