Jack King is prescribed to take iv fluids called d5w which is hypotonic sugar water which is used for a person who is in water depleted state or normal saline if he had low blood volume state or D5 in half normal saline if he is dehydrated. Example of iv fluids is sugar, salt and lactate.

Most iv used is a concentration and combination of sugar which involves dextrose and glucose, lactate, and saline.
