To what extent did American foreign policy evolve following the conclusion of World War II

The Americans were established as sort of a policing force in the western hemisphere. We made it clear that if someone had a problem with our allies that they were to come to us and not that country. By this point we were well established as a world super power and had the military capability to enforce this.
