while the USA was not keen on a militaristic intervention in the Hungarian revolution that was crushed by the Soviet union, and only gave moral support, the case of west Berlin was utterly different in that the USA responded through the Kennedy administration with activating over 150,000 reservist which led to the soviets putting up a barbed wire to separate the cities.
