let side of smaller square = x then the side of larger one = 2x.
totalerea = 45 so:-

x^2 + (2x)^2 = 45
x^2 + 4x^2 = 45
5x^2 = 45
x^2 = 9
x = 3

Length of each side of larger square = 6
