let sin
\theta = 3/x

\theta is the angle in a right-angled triangle with 3 as opposite side and x as the hypothesis

cos
\theta = adjacent side / hypothesis

= sqrt(x^2 - 3^2) / x

= sqrt(x^2/x^2 - 9/x^2)

= sqrt(1 - 9/x^2)
