A new pair of sunglasses normally costs $50. These sunglasses are currently on sale for $12 off.
What percentage off (discount) are the sunglasses?

Answer: 24% off.

Explanation: You start by subtracting the amount off from the normal price to get $38. Then you divide 38 by 50 to get 0.76 or 76% which means that that is only 76% of the normal price. Then you subtract 76% from 100% to find how much the difference is, 24%.
