Equation 2 is the only linear one due to the fact that there is no exponent on the x or y values.

Answer:

Equation 2:
y = 8x

Explanation:

A linear function or equation is one in which the variables involved have no exponents other than 1.

the options are:

Equation 1:
y = 2x^2 + 1

Equation 2:
y = 8x

Equation 3:
y = 5x^3 - 1

Equation 4:
y^2 = 4x - 1

Equation 1 has a quadratic exponent, the same for Equation 4.

And Equation 3 has a cubic exponent.

So the only equation that is linear is the Equation 2, because there are no exponents other than 1 in the expression.
