During the 1800's. (1892 to be specific) Juan Vucetich is credited with making the first fingerprint identification in a criminal case.

Juan Vucetich (1858) was the Argentina Police officer who for the first time devised a system of identification of fingerprints and used them for the purpose of identification of criminals. He used this technique for the purpose of solving a murder case.
