The polymerase chain reaction is most like DNA in living cells. This is a technique that is performed in the lab to make many copies of a particular region of DNA. In other words it is used to amplify a single copy or a few copies of a segment of DNA across several orders of magnitude, generating thousands or millions of the copies of that particular sequence.
