There is a 0.40-A current in resistor X when it is connected to a 2.0-V battery. A 0.25-A current is in a second resistor, Y, when it is connected to a 4-V battery. There is a 0.50-A current in a third resistor, Z, when it is connected to a 5.0-V battery. Find the resistor that has the maximum resistance and the resistor that has the least resistance.

We can find the value of the resistance R of each resistor by using Ohm's law:

V=IR
where
V is the potential difference across the resistor
I is the current flowing through it

First resistor:

R_X = (V)/(I)= (2.0 V)/(0.40 A)=5 \Omega
Second resistor:

R_Y = (V)/(I)= (4 V)/(0.25 A)=16 \Omega
Third resistor:

R_Z = (V)/(I)= (5.0 V)/(0.50 A)=10 \Omega

So, the resistor with the maximum resistance is the second one (Y), while the resistor with the least resistance is the first one (X)
