This is going to sound a little weird when I write it, but eventually it will make sense.

Powers whose bases are multiplied will add.

The base is x. And the 2 xs are multiplied so the powers will add.

n = 3 - 17

n = - 14

Answer

(x^3)(x^-17) = x^-14
