In this case when you have a triangle that is being cut by paralell lines you can use the Triangle Proportionality Theorem, which states that a triangle that is cut by a parallel line to any side the resultant sides would be proportional to those of the original triangle.

So you equation would be like this:


(15)/(12) =(y)/(4)

If you clear the function to get the value of X it´ll look like this:


y=(15*4)/(12)


y=(60)/(12)


y=5

Now that we have calculated the length of Y we can calculate the length of X

Since
x+y=15

Then


x=15-y


x=15-5


x=10

So the value of X would be 10.
