Hey there :)

3x + 5 = - 16x

It is ideal to take the like-terms together
Take 3x to the other side { Do subtraction since the operation is addition on the left hand side }

3x ( - 3x ) + 5 = - 16x - 3x
5 = - 19x

Divide by - 19 on either side to isolate x

(5)/(-19) = (-19x)/(-19)

x =
- (5)/(19) = -0.2631578947

Hello!

You solve this algebraically

3x + 5 = -16x

subtract 3x from both sides

5 = -19x

Divide both sides by -19

-5/19 = x

The answer is = -5/19

Hope this helps!
