The Great Leap Forward was an economic and social campaign by the Communist Party of China lead by Mao Zedong from 1958 to 1962. The campaign aimed to rapidly transform the country from an agriculutral economy into a socialist society by quick industrialization and collectivization. These policies lead to social and economical disaster but were hidden behind deceitful reports. The private farming was forbidden and those who denied were labeled as counter-revolutionaries and sent to prison.
