One definition for the word, peripheral, is “outside of, or external.” Why is this an appropriate name for the peripheral nervous system

Because it makes up most of the nerves on the outside of our brain and spinal cord, it’s also not protected by the vertebral column and skull meaning it’s exposed to many things :))
