To solve for x:

Distribute the 2 first.

2x + 8 = 30

Now subtract 8.

2x = 30 - 8
2x = 22

Divide by 2

x = 22/2
x = 11

divide both sides by 2
x + 4 = 15
subtract 4 to both sides
x = 11
