The diameter of a round swimming pool is 15 ft. The pool cover will extend one foot over the side all around the pool. What is the area of the pool cover?

STEP 1:
If the cover extends 1 foot all the way around, add 1 to the 15 foot diameter of the pool to find the cover's diameter.

1 + 15= 16 ft cover diameter

STEP 2:
find cover area; divide cover diameter by 2 to get radius

A= πr^2
A=(3.14)(16/2)^2
A= (3.14)(8)^2
A= (3.14)(64)
A= 200.96 feet squared

ANSWER: The cover area is 200.96 ft squared
