Hello!

You solve this algebraically

5x + 2(x - 4) = 5x + x - 10

Distribute the 2

5x + 2x - 8 = 5x + x - 10

combine like terms

7x - 8 = 6x - 10

subtract 6x from both sides

x - 8 = -10

Add 8 to both sides

x = -2

The answer is -2

Hope this helps!
