You would distribute the 4 into the parenthesis so the 4 in the begining would be multiplied to the w and the other four. So this 4(w+4)(w+4) would become (4w+16)(4w+16) and then that would become 16w^2+64w+64w+256 and then that would be simplified to 16w^2+128w+256 and that is your answer

the way you solve it is first, you need to solve in the parenthasis, so (w+4) fill in for w, do that both times and then just solve it like an normal equation
