You want to get the total amount Henri has which is $14 then subtract the flat fee.
14-1.25=12.75, He has $12.75 left to pay for miles, Since the taxi charges .75 a mile, you get $12.75/.75= 17
Henri has enough to pay to ride 17 miles.

Hope this helps

Answer:

17 miles the Henri can afford

Explanation:

Given : A taxi service charges a flat fee of $1.25 and $0.75 per mile. If Henri has $14.00,

To find : The number of miles he can afford to ride in the taxi.

Solution :

Let x be the number of miles taxi ride.

Let y be the total cost of service.

A taxi service charges a flat fee of $1.25 and $0.75 per mile.

i.e,
y = 1.25 + 0.75x

The amount Henri has $14

So, y=14

14 = 1.25 + 0.75x

Now, solving the equation

14-1.25=0.75x

12.75=0.75x

x=(12.75)/(0.75)

x=17

Therefore, 17 miles the Henri can afford
