You've made the hypothesis that the higher the density of a rock, the higher the temperature at which will melt, because a denser rock contains more material.

What should the independent variable be in an experiment testing this hypothesis?
A. the size of the rock
B. the color of the rock
C. the density of the rock
D. the temperature at which the rock melts

C. the density of the rock because we are changing the density of the rock and seeing how all other variables change with regards to the density.

The independent variable is the one we are changing in the experiment. As we change it, the dependent variable might also change.

C. the density of the rock because we are changing the density of the rock and seeing how all other variables change with regards to the density.
