–2x + 14 = x^2 – 3x + 12

add 2x to both sides:

14 = x^2-x +12

subtract 12 from both sides:

2 = x^2-x

subtract 2 from both sides:

x^2 -x -2 = 0
now factor the polynomial:
(x-2) (x+1) = 0

solve for x
2-2 = 0
-1 +1 = 0
so x = 2 and -1
