Area of a rectangle= length*width
Here you are given the width but not the length. But also you are given the perimeter.
Perimeter of a rectangle= 2(length+width)=18
so,
length+width= (18)/(2) =9
width=7, so
length+7=9
so,
length=2
Now, you have the length=2 miles and width=7 miles
You can simply get you area.

Area= length*width=2*7=14miles^2
The answer is 14 sq miles.

Hope this helps.

18 miles long, one side is 7 miles, rectangle

a rectangle has 2 sets of identical sides

2 sides are 7 miles long each

18 - 7 -7 = 4miles

4/2sides = 2 miles long each side

2 miles x 7 miles = 14 square miles for area
