A fish tank, in the shape of a rectangular prism with dimensions 70 centimeters by 44 centimeters by 38 centimeters, is 95% filled with water. A solid log is placed into the tank, sinks to the bottom, and makes water spill out. The log is shaped like a cylinder with a radius of 6 cm and a height of 57 centimeters.

Answer:

Volume of water which spills out of the tank = 591.28 cm³

Explanation:

The dimensions of the rectangular prism shaped fish tank = 70 cm by 44 cm by 38 cm

Volume of the fish tank = 70 × 44 × 38

⇒ Volume of the fish tank = 117040 cm³

Now, The tank is 95% filled

So, The part of the fish tank which is empty = 5% of 117040

⇒ The part of the fish tank which is empty = 0.05 × 117040

⇒ The part of the fish tank which is empty = 5852 cm³

Volume of the cylinder shape wooden log = π × radius² × height

⇒ Volume of the cylinder shape wooden log = 3.14 × 36 × 57

⇒ Volume of the cylinder shape wooden log = 6443.28 cm³

So, Volume of water which spills out of the tank = Volume of the cylindrical log - Volume left to be filled

Volume of water which spills out of the tank = 6443.28 - 5852

= 591.28 cm³
