Does this help?

If ƒ(x ) = x 2 + 1 and g(x ) = 3x + 1, find [ƒ(2)-g(1)] 2

Anwser: 1

((2)2 + 1) - (3(1) + 1) = 1

/ / | | \ \ | |

2*2=4+1 - 3*1=3+1 =1

\ / \ /

5 - 4 =1

5-4=1
