The partition of Palestine Mandate was a proposal made up by the United Nations recommended to be done at the end of the British Mandate.
The resolution recommended the creation of independent Araba and Jewish States and a special international regimen for the city of Jerusalem. The Partition Plan set the progressive withdrawal of the British armed forces and delineation of boundaries between the two new States and Jersualem. The plan sought to adress the conflicitng objectives and claims of two competings movementes, Zionism or Jewish Nationalism and Palestinian Nationalism. The plan also foresee an economic union between the two States and the protection of religious and minority rights.
The plan was accepted by the Jewish authorities but not by the Arabs who consider that the plan violates the principles of national self-determination in the UN charter. They also declared the unwillingness to accept any sort of territorial division.
