The expression 2(l + w) is used to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle, where l is length and w is width. If the length is Fraction 2 over 5 unit and the width is Fraction 1 over 5 unit, what is the perimeter of the rectangle in units?

Given the expression of 2(l + w) with w =
(2)/(5) and l =
(1)/(5)

2( (2)/(5) + (1)/(5) ) \\ 2( (3)/(5) ) \\ (6)/(5) = 1 (1)/(5)

Hello!

You use the expression 2(l + w) and put in the values you know

length is 2/5

width is 1/5

You put this into the equation

2(2/5 + 1/5)

Do what is in parenthesis first

2(3/5)

multiply

2 * 3/5 = 6/5 = 1.2

The perimeter is 1.2 units

Hope this helps!
