The answer to your question would be the first statement. Binge eaters eat out of  their emotions, to help escape them.

The correct answer would be to avoid dealing with difficult emotions.

Binge eating is known as a psychological disorder and falls under eating disorders. It is a consequence of being unable to deal with or control aspects of your life that you find difficult so you turn to food as comfort and a way of coping. It is a negative way of coping with emotions. Many people eat to hide or deal with their emotions, binge eating is a more extreme version of it as it becomes uncontrollable and people that binge eat need psychological intervention.
