Jim is trying to determine where his senior class would like to go for their senior trip this year. The choices are Olympic National Park, Aruba, Hawaii, or Cancun. Which question would be the MOST appropriate for his survey?

A) Which location would you prefer for the senior trip: Olympic National Park, Aruba, Hawaii, or Cancun?
B) Would you prefer to escape to a tropical location with palm trees and sandy beaches or see more trees?
C) Would you prefer to stay in the United States or go to an exotic, tropical location that is new and exciting?
D) Would you prefer to commune with nature and have a peaceful vacation or have to deal with a lot of noisy, loud tourists?

The answer is A.
When writing a question for a survey you want to have the least possible bias in your wording and you do not want to sway your sample one way or another. Keeping the language neutral is very important. The only question that does this is Which location would you prefer for the senior trip: Olympic National Park, Aruba, Hawaii, or Cancun?
