Eliana bought 1/6 of a pound of green grapes and 1/12 of a pound of red grapes. How much more did the green grapes weigh than the red grapes?

First, we would need to find a common denominator. 6 and 12 have 12 in common, so lets pick 12 as our common denominator.

Since 1/12 already has 12 for a denominator, we wont have to do anything to it.

So, what times 6 gives you a denominator of 12? 2! If we multiply the denominator by 2, we have to also multiply the numerator by 2. 1/6 times 2/2 is 2/12.

Laslty, we have to subtract them. 2/12 - 1/12 is 1/12. so, Eliana bought 1/12 more pounds of green grapes than red grapes.
