Answer:

In addition to what the other person said, early trumpets were not even trumpets. Sometimes they would cut of the tip of a conch shell and sand it down to play. Modern trumpets can have different mouthpieces and they come pre-made.

I assume you are asking about B flat trumpets, in that case, early trumpets would be more similar to bugles (meaning they have no valves/mouthpiece), and modern trumpets have both of those. Hope this helps!
