Add the fact that Poland was so close to the USSR that it represented an even greater threat to Russian Communism and his ability to remain in control as a dictator.

Poland being the neighbor of the USSR, it provided protection and a buffer from Western powers. Poland was a part of the Warsaw Pact but had Western thinkers within the borders. An election after WWII may caused Poland to elect a democratic republic with capitalism as their economic system.
