How was the foreign policy of the U.S. and Cuba different during the Spanish-America War?

Cuba was reluctant to lose an ally in Spain, and the U.S. wanted to avoid conflict at all costs.

The U.S. was reluctant to help Cuba remove the Spanish, but Cuba wanted to be a U.S. protectorate.

The U.S. felt that Spain had no right to the Western Hemisphere, while Cuba hoped to continue Spanish involvement.

Cuba wanted to be independent from Spain, and the U.S. wanted to end Spanish rule in the West.

The correct answer is Cuba wanted to be independent from Spain, and the US wanted to end Spanish rule in the West.

The US got involved in the Spanish-American War for several different reasons. One of them was to end the tyrannical rule of Spain in the Western Hemisphere. Ending this rule would also benefit the US, as it would give them significantly more power in the Western hemisphere. Cuba wanted to become independent and create their own government/rules rather than being controlled by Spain.
