Read the passage. excerpt from Act II, Scene 1, in A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare Titania And thorough this distemperature we see The seasons alter: hoary-headed frosts Fall in the fresh lap of the crimson rose, And on old Hiems’ thin and icy crown An odorous chaplet of sweet summer buds Is, as in mockery, set. The spring, the summer, The childing autumn, angry winter, change Their wonted liveries… Which mood does the imagery in this excerpt create? Images of dying flowers create a sad mood. The phrases "as in mockery" and "angry winter" create an angry mood. Images of frost on roses and summer flowers on an icy crown create a chaotic mood. The phrase "an odorous chaplet of sweet summer buds" creates a happy mood.

Images of frost on roses and summer flowers on an icy crown create a chaotic mood.

Titania is explaining how her fight with Oberon is impacting the natural world. All of the seasons are mixing and changing. The mood of chaos is shown through these images of seasons conflicting--frost on flowers or flowers on ice don't usually go together.
