A non-spontaneous reduction reaction

Electroplating involves passing an electric current through a solution called an electrolyte. A redox reaction is spontaneous if the standard electrode potential for the redox reaction is positive. If redox reaction is negative, the reaction will not proceed in the forward direction (non-spontaneous). Non-spontaneous redox reactions cannot be used to produce electricity.
